Meet & Greet at ReportingMD: Angel Ramirez

By Jessica Raymond

Angel Ramirez, Software Developer

Describe a typical day at ReportingMD:

“Start the day off with a stand up where all the dev’s get together, and we discuss what we did the previous day and discuss what we will be working on that day. I always have a handful of things to do, I do most of the front-end stuff, which includes making all the charts that everyone gets to see after the database team works extremely hard to gather all of the data for me and I convert that into something visual for the customers. A lot of what I do would not be possible without the database team. During stand up, I usually have questions for others as I am fairly new, regarding tasks that I am unfamiliar with.”

What did you want to be when you grew up?

“I grew up as a jack of all trades, master of none. At one point I wanted to be a cook or a pro athlete. I still want to be a pro athlete, that is on the shelf somewhere. I have been doing track since I was in middle school, went to school for track (Keene State College): 100m, 200m, 4×1 relay, and occasionally long jump and high jump. I did know that I wanted a job that I would enjoy and for the most part, I have achieved that. I love who I work with and what I do. But again, growing up I wanted to be everything, from a lion tamer to an astronaut, you name it.”

What are your hobbies?

“Other than learning, I love playing video games with my brothers. I love skateboarding and barhopping with my buddies. Not necessarily for the drinks, but just going out and meeting new people, having discussions, and learning new things.”

What is your favorite movie?

“A lot of people might hate me for this one, but I really like the movie ‘Jumper’. For some reason, it is the movie that I want to see, I have been waiting almost 14 years for a sequel that is not going to happen. Not a whole lot of people liked it, but I remember I really liked the concept and I highly recommend that other people watch it, please ignore the reviews.”

What is your dream vacation?

“I have only been out of the country to visit relatives in the Dominican Republic so my dream vacation would be to go to multiple countries, even if it’s just for a day at a time just to check out what the rest of the world looks like. I haven’t travelled much in the United States either, so being able to just go sightseeing throughout the USA and expand my horizons a little bit would be great.”

If you could have dinner with anyone dead/alive, who would it be?

“That’s a tough one.. I’d say Robin Williams. I think that he was a great person and it’s too bad with the struggles he went through but I think he would be a wonderful person to sit down and have a conversation with.”
