Meet & Greet at ReportingMD: Barbara Mahar

By Jessica Raymond

Barbara Mahar, Administrator & Advisory

Describe a typical day at ReportingMD:

“The typical day varies as I have different responsibilities- I have a lot of meetings, handle payroll, and handle the business admin side of things as well. I have done this work before, but for a different company. I am invited to many meetings every week, client services, learning TOM (Total Outcomes Management software) and product testing. I’m also basically the human resources department- I handle healthcare, sending off letters, etc. It’s quite a versatile role! I do all the hardware as well, for example if anyone is having IT or computer issues. This role is really a jack of all trades- something different every day.”

What did you want to be when you grew up?

“I wanted to be a psychiatrist, but I didn’t think I had it in me to handle the course work. I love the psyche of people. I’m fascinated with how the mind works, especially when it comes to true crime- how can a baby turn into a monster serial killer? Nature versus nurture is just so fascinating to me, where were their mothers?

What are your hobbies?

“I love to read true crime, or any kind of crime really (fiction or nonfiction). I love biographies, romance novels- I really enjoy all kinds of books and am always reading. I’m a big library fan. I also love to stay active- I love to jog, practice yoga, and practice Pilates. My husband and I also rescue senior pugs- we look out for those that no one wants to adopt since they are older (8 years or older). We currently have our sweet Ozzie (he’s 13 years old but we got him when he was 11). When we retire, we want to have a dog farm setup to foster these elderly dogs.”

What is your favorite movie?

“I’d have to say “The Godfather” (I love the book also). I should have been a mafia princess- I am obsessed with the mob. I love the way they are organized, the loyalty, I find it to be fascinating. I first watched it at 8 years old with my father. I love “Boondock Saints”, “The Sopranos”, anything in that genre.”

What is your dream vacation?

“I enjoy visiting any big city- I’ve been to Santa Barbara, Chicago, San Diego but everywhere I’ve lived has been rural so I want to continue exploring big cities. Would love to get to New Zealand, Ireland. I’ve only ever been to Canada! I just want to go to a busy city- go to cafes, people watch. My boys (twins, 27), their birthday was always April vacation. I would take them on a trip and then they could bring back a good souvenir, did that through their junior year of high school.”

If you could have dinner with anyone dead/alive, who would it be?

“My dad because he passed when I was 24 from a heart attack. I feel like the years that I did not get to spend with him, I didn’t get to know him and he didn’t know me as the person I am now. We were really close and he was my hero. At 24, I was still growing, so I would love for him to know who I grew up to be.”
