Meet & Greet at ReportingMD: Jacob Warkentien

By Jessica Raymond

Jacob Warkentien, Database Engineer

Describe a typical day at ReportingMD:

“Besides the morning ritual of meeting with my team, it usually involves juggling a few client’s data loads, making work flows more efficient, or putting out fires down a rabbit hole. Researching issues, coming up with different solutions, and implementing them is what I enjoy doing.”

What did you want to be when you grew up?

“Funny enough, I wanted to be a firefighter. Most of my male family members were in law enforcement, but I wanted to help people in a different way. Pretty sure younger me was talking about running into burning buildings, but being an RMD firefighter has some hero moments.”

What are your hobbies?

“I tend to hold a big pool of hobbies as the seasons change, but I do have a few favorites. I’m a licensed UAS drone pilot and am humbled by seeing our beautiful world from different perspectives. When not flying, I also like to envelope myself in nature and ride local ATV trails. Being in the woods, on a mountain, or by a river, helps me to relax on a deeper level when life gets hectic.”

What is your favorite movie?

“I don’t necessarily have a “favorite” movie, but I gravitate toward comedies more. Laughing really is the best medicine. They may be weird tastes to some, but to name a few; Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Superbad, and Dodgeball.”

What is your dream vacation?

“To me, this coincides with my dream honeymoon. A week at an all-inclusive resort somewhere in the Caribbean. Dream vacations should be free of time, figuring out schedules, having minimal responsibilities, and not needing to cook. I’m looking forward to making this all a reality in my near future!”

If you could have dinner with anyone dead/alive, who would it be?

“Papa, my maternal Grandfather. The more birthdays I have away from him, the more I realize how similar he was to me. He always shared the good stories, but I would be interested to hear the bad ones, the choices he made, and what he would do better. I do miss him, but feel he is still with me in spirit.”
